"Pairings," a year-long Artist Collaboration

Pairings

A Year-Long Missouri Fiber Artist Collaboration, 2015-2016 exhibition of collaborative work by Missouri Fiber Artists (MOFA).

PAIRINGS features 38 pairs of fiber artists from across Missouri, Illinois and Canada. The PAIRINGS exhibit is the culmination of a year-long collaboration in which fiber artists paired up to visit each other's studios, talk about their art and becomefamiliarwith each others' work. Pairs were challenged to create one collaborative piece and then each member of the pair was asked to create an individual piece to reflect the influence of the collaboration. More than 80 works are exhibited.

The Journey

This collaboration started out ambitiously. Wild plans condensed in the finished piece.

Inspired by Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, we wanted to conceptualize a poetic allegory of our journey.

How it was made

The base was formed with shaper sheet and plaster. We cut the piece into a triptych and painted the background so that the three pieces would be unified. Amy did the day section on the left and Carol did the night section on the right. We came together to finish the middle.

We had a great time. Laughed a lot, learned a lot and ate a lot. It's the journey!
